The festival of the Way of the Cross, presided over by the Pope at the Vatican, is one of the most important gatherings of the year for pious Christians all around the world.
A procession winds its way from the Colosseum of Rome to the Palatine, led by the head of the Catholic church. Along the way, the different stages of the calvary of Christ are played out. The crowd is always a large one and their fervour remains unchanged each Good Friday.
